The ball just wouldn’t fall through the hoop for the Iowa Wesleyan women on Saturday night.
The Tiger ladies played a non-conference weekend game against Simpson College but fell at home, 62-39, on a cold night shooting.
The two teams went back and forth in the first period. Darby Massner knocked down one three-pointer and scored eight points in the period, but the Storm were still able to jump out to a 17-12 lead.
Jaimie Hurd started the second quarter out with a two-point jumper to cut the lead to 17-14, but it all went downhill from there.
Simpson went on a 24-7 run to end the half, including 10 points off turnovers and five second chance points to take a 20-point lead before half, 41-21.
The Tigers could never get back into the game, losing the first quarter, 12-10, and the second quarter, 9-8.
Massner ended the game with 14 points to lead the team. She had all four of the Tigers’ three-point baskets on the day.
LaStella Slack scored eight points and pulled down seven rebounds in the loss. Hurd scored seven points and led the team with four assists before eventually fouling out of the ballgame.
Cairece Allen scored six points and led the team with 11 rebounds. Josie Zerrusen had four points and seven rebounds.
Iowa Wesleyan fell to 3-6 overall with the loss. The Tigers will have two more non-conference games before returning to SLIAC play.
The first of those games will be on Tuesday, Dec. 20, at Ruble Arena. The Tigers will host Nebraska Wesleyan University at 5:30 p.m.
