IWC cross-country runs at Warrior Invite
WEST ALLIS, Wis. — The Iowa Wesleyan College cross-country teams traveled on Saturday to race in the Wisconsin Lutheran College Warrior Invite.
Jacob Ayers competed in the men’s 8K race for the Tigers. Ayers crossed the line in 30:03 to place 82nd overall. There were 234 finishers in the men’s race.
Breanna Derynck was the top finisher in the women’s 6K for the purple and white. Derynck completed the course in 29:05, good for 145th.
Allison Miles also ran for the Tigers. Miles toured the course in 35:59. There were 271 finishers in the women’s race.
“Bre ran well considering she was out all week after getting her wisdom teeth pulled on Monday,” said Head Coach Tad Hulst. “But overall, it wasn’t our best today. Normally, this meet only has about 10 teams. This year it had 30 and it was crowded. We let it get in our heads and we were timid.
“No excuses, we just ran scared and didn’t compete like we should,” he added. “We need to flip the switch mentally and start being more aggressive and confident.”
The Tigers get the week off from competition and return to action on Friday, Oct. 18 when they travel to Dubuque to race in the Loras College Dr. Tucker Invitational.
