IWC football falls in home opener
The Iowa Wesleyan College football team fell to the University of Minnesota-Morris, 41-24, at Mapleleaf Athletic Complex on Saturday in the Tigers’ home opener.
The Tigers got on the board first in the game, scoring on Brandon Baker’s 34-yard field goal.
However, UM-Morris came back with a touchdown five minutes later to take a 7-3 lead at the end of the first quarter.
The Tigers took it back with a 29-yard touchdown run by Raul Becerril in the second, and added another touchdown on a Ridge Hobbs’ catch from quarterback Zandro Diaz before halftime.
The next four scores, however, were by UM-Morris, and the game slipped away as the Tigers couldn’t answer until the final 10 minutes of the game.
LiMichael Peeples caught a 54-yard pass from Caleb Huss with 9:37 left to play, but it was too little, too late for the Tigers who fall to 0-3 overall.
They will play again Saturday at MacMurray College in Jacksonville, Ill.
Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
