IWC men’s basketball downed by Rams
MT. VERNON — The Iowa Wesleyan College men’s basketball team tipped off the regular season on Saturday night at Cornell College in non-conference action.
The Tigers struggled to find their shot against the Rams, suffering a 95-51 loss and falling to 0-1 on the season.
Iowa Wesleyan came out cold as the Rams built a 15-5 lead in the first 3:45 of the game, and the Tigers trailed 48-19 at the half.
The Tigers managed to find their offense a bit more in the second half, but the Rams were too much, outscoring the Tigers, 47-32, in the last 20 minutes.
As a team, Iowa Wesleyan shot 30.6 percent from the field against the Rams, while Cornell hit an impressive 53.1 percent of their shot attempts. The Tigers were just 50 percent from the free throw line on the night.
Joe Lennon led IWC scorers with 11 points on 3-of-6 shooting. He was 5-of-10 from the line as well.
Chris Martin added nine points for the Tigers and pulled down four rebounds on the night.
Dion Lightner and Murray Schwengels also had four rebounds apiece.
As a team, IWC was out-rebounded in the game, 45-31.
The Tigers return to action on Friday, Nov. 22, when they travel to Ankeny to play Manhattan Christian College. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m.
