IWC men’s basketball picks up first win
ANKENY — The Iowa Wesleyan College men's basketball picked up its first win of the season on Saturday, and they did it in an exciting fashion.
The Tigers won their Saturday contest against Faith Baptist Bible College by a score of 80-78 on a tip-in by Steven Archibald as time expired.
Overall, IWC went 1-1 on the weekend in Ankeny, falling to Manhattan Christian College by a score of 62-53 on Friday night before claiming the Saturday win.
Archibald finished the game against Faith Baptist with 23 points on 10-for-15 shooting and was 3-for-5 on free throws. He was second on the team to Dion Lightner with 26 points. They were the only Tigers in double figures. Lightner was 11-for-16 from the floor in the game and went 4-for-5 from the stripe. Archibald led the team with eight rebounds.
In the game against Manhattan Christian, the Tigers were led by Lightner with 14 points; he was 6-for-12 from the floor and 2-2 from the line. Chris Martin and Duane Lee chipped in 12 points each.
Lee finished with a double-double, pulling down 11 rebounds to go with his 12 points. Max Kearns had a team-high 12 rebounds in the game and dished five assists.
The Tigers are now 1-2 on the year. They return to action on Saturday, Nov. 30, when they hit the road to take on the University of Nebraska-Omaha.
