IWC softball splits with C-S, baseball swept by H-LG
The IWC Tigers’ baseball team went on the road to take on Hannibal-LaGrange University in a doubleheader on Tuesday.
The Tigers dropped both games, losing 19-1 in the first game and then falling 3-0 in game two.
IWC is now 3-8. HLU is 6-11.
In the opener, IWC was led at the plate by Jeffrey Burdett and Nathan Strusz, each of whom went 2-for-3. Burdett hit a double, and Strusz drove in Burdett for the team’s only run.
Jacob Neilson was 2-for-4. Jacob Scherer also had a hit.
Joseph Neilson, Christian Vigil and Kyle Zicafoose each pitched for the Tigers; Joseph Neilson took the loss.
In game two, Michael Reed, Strusz, Burdett and David Barrios each had one hit for IWC. Barrios’ hit was a double.
Keith Bullock was on the mound and took the loss for the Tigers.
The Iowa Wesleyan College softball team also played Tuesday, taking on Culver-Stockton College in a doubleheader at CSC.
IWC and CSC split the two games, with IWC taking game one, 7-5. The Tigers then fell in game two, 2-1.
IWC is now 6-6. CSC is now 4-7
Ayla Serrano went 3-for-4 for IWC in game one, and Mikayla Dwyer was 2-for-3. Tory Beaver, Dayna Bundy and Sarah Voss had one hit each for the Tigers.
Dwyer knocked in three runs in the win and Beaver crossed the plate three times.
Both Jill Leutscher and Sonja Holmes pitched for IWC, with Leutscher going five innings and taking the win. She allowed three hits, walked five and struck out four.
In game two, Serrano, Bundy, Ashley Mysliwiec, Dwyer and Voss each had one hit for IWC. Bundy’s second-inning home run was all that the Tigers would score, however, in the loss.
Serrano and Holmes pitched for the Tigers, with Holmes taking the loss.
The IWC baseball team plays again Friday at Clarke University, starting at 3 p.m., and the softball team gets back on the field Saturday at Webster University.
