IWC softball team qualifies for national tournament
The Iowa Wesleyan College softball team has qualified for the USCAA National Tournament after finishing the regular season at 18-13.
The Tigers will head to Akron, Ohio for the tournament, which will be from May 12-15.
“It’s a great accomplishment and a great opportunity for the team,” said head coach Mike Hampton. “It’s a testament to the focus and hard work these young ladies put in this season. It was difficult to find a rhythm with all the weather cancellations, but these ladies handled it really well and I’m really proud of them.”
IWC is one of 10 teams who will be competing in the tournament at Firestone Stadium, home of the Akron Racers.
The Tigers are led by four seniors who will play their final games for the purple and white as they compete for the USCAA National Championship.
Tory Beaver, a senior from North Liberty, hit .457 in 31 games during the regular season. Beaver hit four home runs and knocked in 25 RBIs. She also hit eight doubles and three triples.
Ayla Serrano, a senior from Rock Island, Ill., hit .364 in 31 games. Serrano had a team-high 28 RBIs on the season. She also had a 4-5 record on the mound for the Tigers with a 4.64 ERA.
