IWC splits with Principia
The Iowa Wesleyan softball team split a doubleheader with Principia College yesterday. The Tigers won game one, 12-4, in six innings and fell to the Panthers, 4-0, in game two. They move to 16-20 overall and 9-9 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
Caitlin O’Neil was 3-for-5 with a triple and three RBIs in game one. Jillian Leutscher was 1-for-2 with a triple and four runs batted in; Haleigh Cowan went 1-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Andrea Bury was 2-for-4 and Ashley Stube was 3-for-4.
Leutscher got the win on the mound, going six innings and allowing four hits and two walks for four earned runs. She fanned six batters.
In game two, Stephanie Tillman went all seven innings, gave up four hits and three walks for four earned runs, and struck out six batters — but without run support, she took the loss.
Stube was 2-for-3 in the game, leading IWC at the plate. Four other Tigers had one hit each.
Next up for the Tigers is Wednesday’s home doubleheader against Loras College, starting at 5 p.m.
