IWC sweeps Webster
The Iowa Wesleyan College softball team defeated Webster, 10-5 and 11-10, in a pair of St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference games on Saturday afternoon at Mapleleaf Athletic Complex.
The Tigers didn’t have any trouble getting the bat on the ball in the home games.
Haleigh Cowan smacked a home run and had three RBIs in game one, while Mikayla Dwyer was 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and a run batted in.
Jillian Leutscher was 2-for-4 with a triple and four runs knocked in, while Andrea Bury went 2-for-3 and Ashley Stube was 1-for-3 with two RBIs.
Leutscher also got the win on the mound for IWC, and is now 6-4 on the season.
In game two, pitcher Stephanie Tillman got the win, evening her season record at 4-4.
She got a lot of run support from her teammates, particularly Dwyer, who went 3-for-4 with a home run and two doubles for four runs batted in.
Caitlin O’Neill went 2-for-3 with two doubles and two runs knocked in, while Bury was 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI.
The Tigers took the field at Mapleleaf again on Sunday, taking on 12th-ranked Coe College and falling to the Kohawks by scores of 11-3 and 9-0.
Stats for the games were not available at press time.
IWC is now 10-12 overall and 4-4 conference.
The Tigers play again tomorrow (Tuesday) at Hannibal-LaGrange University, and return home Wednesday to host Cornell College in a make-up doubleheader starting at 4 p.m.
