IWC volleyball smashes Highlanders
Iowa Wesleyan smashed MacMurray in volleyball on Thursday night in Jacksonville, Ill. The Tigers took control of the match early and ended it in four sets (25-19, 25-23, 20-25, 25-8). The win moves the Tigers to 10-17 on the year and puts them at 6-6 in the SLIAC.
After taking the first two sets, the Tigers gave up set three to the Highlanders. But the Tigers roared back in dominating fashion to end the night, jumping out to a 14-1 lead in the fourth set. The Tigers continued to dominate that fourth set, never letting the Highlanders back in it.
Erica Rookstool had a huge match for the Tigers, smashing 15 kills on just 28 attempts to lead the Tigers’ offense. Rookstool also had four block assists on the night.
Marissa Bozik also tallied double-digit kills, recording 10 on the night. Bozik added two block assists and three digs as well.
Lindsey Johnson recorded 28 of the Tigers’ 30 assists on the night.
The Tigers’ defense was on as well as three Tigers reached double figures in digs. Kara Dennell led the way with 14 digs, while Logan Chiri added 13. Dakota Flesner came up with 11 digs against the Highlanders as well.
Iowa Wesleyan will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 26. They will travel back to MacMurray College to compete in the SLIAC Conference Quad Tourney. IWC plays Westminster at 11 a.m and then will take on Principia College at 1 p.m.
