IWC volleyball splits at conference tourney
The Tigers' volleyball team took part in the SLIAC’s second Conference Quad Tourney of the year on Saturday, going 1-1 at the tournament at Eureka College.
The Tigers picked up a three set win to start the day, taking down the host team by scores of 25-9, 25-19 and 25-17.
Dakota Flesner had a huge match to help the Tigers get the win over Eureka, recording 16 kills, eight digs, and one ace. Logan Chiri, who leads the conference in digs, also came up big against Eureka, recording 25 digs in the match. Four other Tigers reached double figures in digs as well.
The Tigers used the momentum from the win to play tough in their second match up of the day as they took on the No. 1 ranked team in the conference, Greenville College.
The Tigers made Greenville work for the win, but ultimately fell in three sets: 25-17, 25-21 and 25-19.
Flesner, who is second in the SLIAC in total kills, again led the Tigers' offense, recording 11 kills in the match. She also had five digs and two aces. Erica Rookstool and Marissa Bozik each added seven kills in the match as well. Cierra Howard had 14 digs against Greenville while Chiri added 13 digs in the match. Lindsey Johnson set up the Tigers' offense all day, recording 66 assists on Saturday.
The Tigers are now 4-11 on the year and 3-2 in the conference. They return to action on Thursday when they take on William Penn University in Oskaloosa at 7 p.m.
