IWC women split games at classic
The IWC women’s basketball team split two games over the weekend at the Mt. Mercy Coaches vs. Cancer Classic. The Tigers picked up the fourth win of the season on Saturday night as they defeated Grace College (Ind.), 54-44. The Lancers have been receiving votes in the NAIA Division II Women’s Basketball Coaches’ Top 25 Poll.
The win against the Lancers came a day after the Tigers struggled against the Indiana Wesleyan College Wildcats. The Tigers lost to the Wildcats, 76-37, on Friday. The Wildcats are currently ranked second in the NAIA Division II Women’s Basketball Coaches’ Top 25 Poll.
In Saturday’s win, the Tigers were led by Jana Meister (Jr.-Ashkum, Ill.) who dropped 17 points on 3-of-12 shooting and 11-of-15 from the free throw line.
Ashley Kruse (Sr.-Lakefield, Minn.) had a big double-double for the Tigers in the win, recording 14 points and 14 rebounds. Kruse shot 4-of-9 from the field and was a perfect 6-for-6 from the charity stripe.
In the loss against the Wildcats, Kruse was the lone Tiger to reach double figures as she had 17 points. Kruse has averaged 13.4 points per game for the Tigers this season, leading the team.
The Tigers, now 4-12 on the season, return to action on Saturday, hosting Viterbo University at 1 p.m.
