Jacobs leads New London in dual tournament at Center Point-Urbana
CENTER POINT — New London wrestling competed in the Center Point-Urbana dual tournament on Saturday, where the Tigers fell in all five of their duals.
They lost to Center Point-Urbana, 57-24; to Solon, 72-12; to Clayton Ridge, 54-24; to Mid-Prairie, 54-30; and to Oelwein, 66-18.
Avery Jacobs picked up five wins for the Tigers on the day.
The New London heavyweight pinned Oelwein’s Parnell Williams in 53 seconds and won by fall over Center Point-Urbana’s Grady Kerr in 1:21. He pinned Logan Linderbaum of Solon in 2:53 and won by forfeit against Clayton Ridge and Mid-Prairie.
In the dual against Center Point-Urbana, the Tigers also got wins by fall from Cody Bartels and Reno Chiri.
Bartels (220) pinned Malik Brown in 2:54 and Chiri (120) pinned Alex Crandall in 4:16.
Kyle Oliver received a forfeit at 160 pounds in the dual.
The Tigers had three wins by fall against Clayton Ridge.
Again, Bartels and Chiri pinned their opponents in the dual. Bartels pinned Alex Tielbar in 1:20 and Chiri won by fall over Charlie Hefel in 57 seconds.
The Tigers also got a win by fall from Julian Wikoff, who pinned Austin Plummley in 1:26 in the 132-pound match.
Against Solon, Tanner Schneider was the only other Tiger to claim a win. He pinned Joshua Bender in 26 seconds during the 160-pound match.
The Tigers’ dual against Mid-Prairie saw 12 forfeits in the 14 matches.
The teams wrestled just two matches, and New London lost both of them.
They got five wins by forfeit — along with Jacobs, Bartels, Wikoff, Chiri and Jairin Swailes received a forfeit.
Finally, in the dual against Oelwein, the Tigers had one other win by fall and one win by forfeit.
Chiri pinned Chase Hershey in 3:23, and Oliver accepted a forfeit at 170 pounds.
The Tigers will compete again Thursday when they host WACO and Van Buren in a double dual, starting at 6:30 p.m.
