James Anderson, 78, Stockport, died Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2013, at his home.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, Nov. 24, from 1 to 6 p.m. at the Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday.
There will be no formal services. Burial will be in the Hickory Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Zoe Anderson Education Fund. Online condolences may be shared at www.olsonpowell.com.
Born Aug. 19, 1935, in rural Stockport, he was the son of Milo Henry and Mary Francis (Campbell) Anderson. He received his early education at the Hickory Grove School and later graduated from Stockport High School in 1953. On May 21, 1955, he married Janice Niece. The couple later divorced.
He farmed throughout his life. In the early years, he was engaged in logging and drove a milk truck. For over 33 years, he was employed at GE in Burlington. He was a volunteer fireman for the Hillsboro Fire Department. He enjoyed motorcycling and entered drag races in Keokuk and Eddyville. He also enjoyed snowmobiling, boating, water skiing, mowing grass for a number of places and flying airplanes. He was a Judge Judy and NASCAR fan.
Survivors include three daughters, Lynette (Jerry) Sutter of Stockport, Kim Anderson of Hillsboro and Zoe Anderson of Stockport; three sons, Chris (Donna) Anderson of Arvada, Colo., Kevin Anderson of Lakewood, Colo. and Milo (Lois) Anderson of Union, Mo.; his companion, Betty Wallace of Stockport; a brother, Robert (Patty) Anderson of Stockport; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and by an infant brother, William Anderson.
