James "Jim" S. Shaw
James ‘Jim’ S. Shaw, 76, Muscatine, died on Monday, May 20, 2013, at his home.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon on Friday, May 24, at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. A time of food and fellowship will be held at the American Legion following the visitation. Burial will take place in Greenwood Cemetery Columbarium. There will be no funeral service. He was born on Dec. 29, 1936, in Mt. Pleasant, and was the son of Leslie Gilbert and Ladoris Agnes Freshwater Shaw. He married Donna M. Detrick on Nov. 19, 1961, in Mt. Pleasant. She preceded him in death.
He was a veteran of the Naval Reserves and the US Army.
He retired from Occidental Chemicals. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge, American Legion and served as Captain of Muscatine Search and Rescue Unit where he also served as a board member.
He enjoyed watching stock car races and loved to travel. He also enjoyed working on lawnmowers. He enjoyed going to his grandchildren’s activities.
He is survived by one son, Timothy S. (Marilyn) Shaw of Muscatine; one daughter, Kim (Jim) McCleary of Muscatine; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one sister, Verlee Laffoon of Blairsville, Ga.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his step-mother, Laura Shaw; and his wife.
