Jerry Lee Young
Jerry Lee Young, 73, Mt. Pleasant, died Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012, at the Banner Gardens Hospice House in Mesa, Ariz.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, April 25, from 5 to 7 p.m. where the family will receive friends. A memorial service will be held Friday, April 26, at 1 p.m. in the Forest Home Chapel, with the Rev. Jeff McPheron, officiating. A memorial has been established to ARC of Henry County. The son of Earl and Wanda (Carpenter) Young, he was born on Aug. 20, 1939, in Henry County. He attended Mt. Pleasant High School. He enlisted in the United States Air Force and was stationed in Greenland. On July 30, 1973, he married Joyce Barr in Fremont, Nebraska.
He worked as a repairman at J.I. Case in Burlington. He retired from this position after 30 years of service. For 12 years, he and his wife, would volunteer to sell t-shirts for the ARC of Henry County at Midwest Old Threshers.
He enjoyed pheassant hunting, fishing and mushroom hunting. He was a lifetime member of the Gold Wing Touring Association. He enjoyed spending time with his friends at the Hy-Vee Coffee Club. He was of the Protestant faith.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Jerry Eugene Young; a daughter, Wanda Maxeen Burge; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death are his mother and a son, Virgil Lee Young.
