Joanna M. Horstman, 82, of rural Bonaparte died Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013, at University Hospital, Iowa City.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 26, in Bonaparte United Church, the Revs. Goldie Layman and Richard Eis officiating. Burial will be in Bonaparte Cemetery. Visitation will open at 2 p.m. Friday at Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua, with family present 5 to 7 p.m. A P.E.O. service by chapter AB will follow the visitation. Memorials to Bonaparte United Church or Bonaparte E.M.T.s may be left at the funeral home or church or mailed to the family at 22449 Route W-40, Bonaparte, Iowa 52620
She was born Aug. 5 1930, at Washington, to Herman and Nova Decker Hendrichsen and married Harold V. Horstman April 28, 1956, in Bonaparte Presbyterian Church. She graduated from Bonaparte High School and American Institute of Commerce, Davenport.
She was an active member of Bonaparte United Church where she served in many capacities including elder, clerk of session and Sunday School teacher. She was also a long time member of chapter AB, P.E.O. and had been a Bonaparte Lionel. She had worked at State Central Bank, Bonaparte, and as a secretary at Harmony High School. She enjoyed reading flowers, traveling, painting and doing puzzles.
Surviving are her husband; a son, Kenny (Candy) Horstman of Bonaparte; two daughters, Kathy (Alan) Van Winkle of Hillsboro and Lori (Lloyd) Bank of Salem; six grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; a sister, Jean (Herb) Saunders of Bonaparte; three brothers, Herman (Lu) Hendrichsen, Jr. of Fairfield, Duane (Sandra) Hendrichsen of Burlington and Larry (Marcia) Hendrichsen of Stuart, Fla.
She was preceded by her parents and an infant brother, Jerry Dean Hendrichsen.
