Joyce L. Horsey
Joyce L. Horsey, 79, Washington, died June 5, 2013, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 11, at 10:30 a.m. at Washington United Methodist Church in Washington, with the Rev. Jim Stiles officiating, burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. Visitation will be held Monday, June 10, from noon until 6 p.m. at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington where the family will greet friends from 4 to 6 p.m.
A memorial fund has been established for the Ryan Horsey College Fund.
She was born Jan. 10, 1934, in Keokuk, and was the daughter of Robert and Floyd (Adams) Rittenhouse. She graduated from Keokuk High School in 1952, from the Iowa State Teacher’s College in 1955 and from the University of Northern Iowa in 1963. She married David J. Horsey on June 14, 1964. She taught kindergarten through sixth grade in several schools through the years including; Williamsburg, Erskin in Cedar Rapids and in the Washington School District for 35 years. She was a member of the Washington United Methodist Church and the Chilcote Questers. She enjoyed history, collecting Fenton glass and teapots and spending time with her grandson.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Kyle Horsey of Washington, Guy (Andrea) Horsey of Cedar Falls; one grandson; and two step-granddaughters.
Preceding her in death were her parents.
