Keokuk sweeps MP softball in SEC doubleheader
KEOKUK — The Mt. Pleasant softball team was held scoreless over a pair of Southeast Conference games at Keokuk on Monday night, falling by scores of 7-0 and 3-0.
At the plate in the opener, Leslie Taylor went 3-for-3, Sammi Goble was 2-for-3 and Morgan Fraise was 1-for-3 but that’s all the offense the Panthers could muster.
Bailey Johnson started on the mound for Mt. Pleasant and took the loss in game one. She went 1 2/3 innings, giving up six hits and six walks for four runs (one earned). She struck out two.
Jena Stukerjurgen pitched in relief. She allowed three hits and four walks for three runs (two earned) in 4 1/3 innings. She struck out two.
The Panthers allowed less than half as many runs in game two, but still couldn’t get anyone across the plate.
Fraise was 2-for-3 with a double in the contest, while Goble and Stukerjurgen had one hit each. Allison Buckert walked and Ali Dorn had a sacrifice bunt.
Cali Liechty pitched a complete game for Mt. Pleasant, giving up six hits and four walks for three runs (one earned). She hit one batter and fanned six.
The Panthers finish the regular season with an overall record of 10-30 and a conference record of 2-14.
They open regional play on Thursday against a conference foe, Fairfield. The game will be in Fairfield at 7 p.m.
