Larry Detrick, 73, Mt. Pleasant, died Monday, Dec. 9, 2013, at his home.
Visitation will begin after noon on Thursday, Dec. 12, at the Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel where the family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 13, at the Mt. Born Aug. 25, 1940, in rural New London, he was the son of Rex Emerson and Mildred (Bird) Detrick. He attended Bethany Rural School. He married Betty Lou Dodson in Ft. Madison. He later married Mary Lue Knifong.
For 15 years, he worked for Henry County as a heavy equipment operator. He then was a commercial fisherman on the Mississippi River. He later owned and operated Detrick’s Scrap Metal. He enjoyed telling stories and visiting with friends. He was a card player and enjoyed gambling. Favorite hobbies were traveling, fishing and hunting. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife; five children, Melanie (Richard) O’Neill, Deb (Tim) Stookesberry, Linda (Kevin) Barton, Bobby Detrick, and Melissa (Rodney) Stewart all of Mt. Pleasant; a sister, Fonda (Howard) Arbogast of New London; two brothers, Dennis (Sharon) Detrick and Bob (Sherrill) Detrick all of Mt. Pleasant; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death are his parents; a brother, Jim Detrick; and a sister, Donna Shaw.
