Lewis L. Howard
Lewis L. Howard, 93, Mt. Pleasant and formerly of Cedar Rapids and Ft. Madison, died Wednesday, July 16, 2014, at his residence.
Funeral services will be at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, Mt. Pleasant, at a time and date to be announced later. The Rev. Shirley Spray of the Community of Christ Church of Mt. Pleasant will officiate. Burial will be in the Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Ft. Madison. There will be no visitation at the Kimzey Funeral Home, Mt. Pleasant, which is assisting the family with the arrangements.

He was born May 26, 1921, in Shenandoah. He was the son of Arthur and Rhoda (Speer) Howard. He graduated from Shenandoah High School. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Agronomy from Iowa State University. On Jan. 5, 1947, he married Shirley Iona Sanford. She preceded him in death.
He served in the US Air Force as a liaison pilot for the 34th Division Field Artillery during World War II. Following the completion of his military service, he continued to pursue flying as a career. He founded Ft. Madison Flying Service. Throughout the years, he also worked in farm management, farm loans and the insurance industry.
He was an active member of the Community of Christ Church where he served in a number of capacities.
He is survived by his daughter, Cynthia (Dale) Marzolf of Mt. Pleasant; and a granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and four sisters.
