Lyle A. Darbyshire
Lyle A. Darbyshire, 84, Washington, died Thursday, March 6, 2014, at the Halcyon House in Washington following a short illness.
Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday, March 10, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home with the Rev. Jim Stiles officiating. Visitation will begin 11 a.m. Sunday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday. Burial with military honors conducted by Washington American Legion Post 29 will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. Memorials have been established for the United Methodist Church. He was born Oct. 11, 1929, in Tingley, and was the son of Dale M. and D. Gertrude (Swift) Darbyshire. He graduated from Crawfordsville High School. He married Marilyn K. Kelsey on May 27, 1951.
He lived in Washington most of his life. He served in the National Guard from 1951 to 1954 and then served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He later served in active duty with the National Guard from 1957 to 1965. He was employed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture for 33 years where he worked in the A.S.C. office (Agriculture Soil Conservation) and was a surveyor for the S.C.S. office (Soil Conservation Service). Following his retirement, he assisted at the Eden Funeral Home until 1996. He was a member of the United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his daughter, Lorilee (Jerry) Glanzman of Mt. Pleasant; son, Terry Darbyshire of Iowa City; grandson; and great-grandson; and one brother, Allen (Fran) Darbyshire of Washington, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and one sister, Donna Hanna.
