Mabeus to serve on U of I Student Leader Board
Mikayla Mabeus of Mt. Pleasant, has been chosen to serve on the University of Iowa Hospitals College Student Leader Board.
The College Student Leader Board acts (SLB) as a liaison between Volunteer Services of UIHC and the 800-plus college student volunteers and the supervisory staff in their assigned units.
SLB members are facilitators and managers for the college volunteers, serving to make the volunteer experience enjoyable. SLB members attend monthly meetings, build relationships with their staff volunteer supervisors, schedule and coordinate orientations for their volunteers and mentors and coordinate the volunteer schedule for their unit.
The Student Leader Board is an application and interview process where over 150 current volunteers apply, a limited number of students get interviewed and from there the total board of 20 students is placed in units. This year, seven new board members were selected.
Mabeus was placed and will be the 2014-2015 SLB for the Ambulatory Surgical Center at UIHC.
Mabeus also received the Making A Difference Award at UIHC this past month. This award is given to a select number of volunteers in the hospital that "make a difference" in someones experience at UI Hospitals and Clinics. Volunteers are usually nominated by staff members at UIHC.
Mabeus is a Mt. Pleasant Community High School graduate and a sophomore at the University of Iowa. She is the daughter of Todd and Amy Mabeus and the granddaughter of Jerry and Martha Mabeus and Merlin (Mike) and Florence Wesely.
