Magnani posts 30 points in Mt. Pleasant loss
CENTERVILLE — Mt. Pleasant’s Trey Magnani posted 30 points and the team scored 66, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the offensive efforts of the Centerville boys’ basketball team on Tuesday night, as the Panthers fell to their hosts by a score of 74-66.
Centerville took a seven-point lead in the first eight minutes of the contest, 19-12, but the Panthers outscored the Big Reds by the same margin in the second quarter, and the teams went into halftime tied at 34.
The Big Reds had the edge in the second half, outscoring Mt. Pleasant 22-18 in the third quarter and 18-14 in the final eight minutes for the win.
Magnani was 4-for-9 from 3-point range and 12-for-21 overall on the night. He made two of six free throws and dished out a team-high four assists.
Brandon Sanchez chipped in 14 points on 5-for-10 shooting, including 4-for-8 from beyond the arc.
Zach Mulford was 5-for-9 and made one of his three shots from deep for 11 points on the night.
Pat Canby led the Panthers in rebounding with eight boards. Sanchez, Magnani and Canby had two steals apiece.
The Panthers are now 5-6 overall and remain 2-2 in the Southeast Conference.
They play another conference game Friday when they host Fairfield. Tipoff for the freshman game is scheduled for 4:45 p.m., with JV and varsity to follow.
