Man, woman charged with thefts in MP
An area resident, a Mt. Pleasant woman and a Quincy, Ill. woman have been charged with thefts at Mt. Pleasant businesses.
Adam Nolz, 30, Ft. Madison, was arrested on Feb. 11, following a several-month investigation for a burglary and theft at Kempker’s True Value on Dec. 26, 2016.
A safe, eventually found in the Mississippi River, was allegedly stolen from Kempker’s. Nolz was charged with second-degree theft, a Class C felony, and taken to the Henry County Jail. The Mt. Pleasant Police were assisted by the Ft. Madison Police Department. More charges are expected.
Veronica Griffin, 18, Mt. Pleasant, and Angie Helmick, 38, Quincy, Ill., were arrested for allegedly stealing items at the Hy-Vee Grocery Store on Feb. 10 following a several-month investigation. Both were charged with third-degree theft, an aggravated misdemeanor. Griffin was transported to the Henry County Jail.
The Mt. Pleasant Police Department received considerable information regarding these cases from victims and other citizens. Eyewitnesses and video surveillance were very vital to solving this case. Citizens are encouraged to lock their doors and report any suspicious activity they observe.
A criminal charge is merely an accusation and a defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
