Marjorie Jean Humphries
Marjorie Jean Humphries, 86, New London, died Monday, April 1, 2013, at the Great River Medical Center, West Burlington.
According to her wishes she has been cremated and private family inurnment will be held in Forest Home Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant. A memorial has been established. Elliott Chapel, New London is in charge of arrangements.
She was born Oct. 31, 1926, in Burlington to Ben and Mabel Longshore Murray. She married Allan Gerst and they were later divorced, she then married John Humphries, who preceded her in death.
She attended Oakville schools and was then employed at Sylvania in Burlington, the Mental Health Institute in Mt. Pleasant and retired from the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in Middletown. She enjoyed reading, quilting, crossword puzzles and her dogs.
She is survived by one son, Marlan (Phyllis) Gerst of Burlington; three daughters, Karen (Butch) Johnson of Mt. Pleasant, Janice (Gale) Gilleard of New London and Lynette (Jesse) Moore of Thayer, Mo.; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; second husband and one sister, Nellie Longshore.
