Mary C. Holtkamp
Mary C. Holtkamp, 92, of The Kensington in Ft. Madison formerly of Houghton, died Monday, June 24, 2013, at The Kensington.
Friends may call after 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 30, at the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church Houghton. The family will meet with friends from 2:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. There will be a Daughters of Isabella Rosary at 3 p.m. and a Christian Wake Service at 5 p.m.
A memorial mass will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, July 1, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Houghton with Father Gary Beckman as Celebrant. Burial will be at the St. John’s Catholic Cemetery in Houghton.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her memory to St. John’s Catholic Church or the West Point Library.

Born May 11, 1921, in West Point, she was the daughter of Henry and Eleanor (Holtkamp) Groene. On July 20, 1942 she married Linus Henry Holtkamp. He preceded her in death.
She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Houghton and the Altar and Rosary Society of the Church. She was a past Regent of the St. Anne’s Circle Daughters of Isabella and past State Regent. She was a member and past officer of D.C.C.W. She was named Iowa State Mother of the Year in 1966. She served on the St. John’s Parish Council, Houghton Town Council and the Houghton Manor Board. She was a 1939 graduate of St. Mary’s High School in West Point. She worked for Sheaffer Pen Company for three years as head of the rebate department. She was a licensed insurance agent. She also helped her husband with farming. She did volunteer tutoring at Iowa Wesleyan College and Marquette Grade School. She enjoyed traveling, dancing, playing cards, poetry and shopping. She especially enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Survivors include her two daughters, Marilyn (Tom) Dingman of Lapeer, Mich. and Dianne (Victor) Wilson of Ft. Madison; one son, Harold (Joan) Holtkamp of Salem; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Julia Peterschmidt of Sacramento, Calif., Eileen (Victor) Peitz of Houghton, Rita Harmeyer of West Point, and Betty (Duane) Denning of Ft. Madison.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one son, Michael; one daughter, Kathleen; one brother, Jim Groene; and one sister in infancy, Rosemary.
