Mary Lea (Switzer) Gooden
Mary Lea (Switzer) Gooden, 68, of Milton, died on Sunday, Jan. 15, 2017, at Good Samaritan’s Hospice, in Ottumwa.
In accordance with her wishes, her body has been cremated. A celebration of life and luncheon will be held on Saturday, April 29, 2017, at noon, at the Milton American Legion Building, in Milton.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in Gooden’s honor and may be left at the service, or mailed to the family at PO Box 181, Milton, Iowa 52570.
Gooden was born on March 28, 1948, in Freeborn County, Minn., the daughter of Merle L. and Margaret J. Stoa Switzer. She attended St. Stephens Lutheran School and graduated from Shellsburg High School in 1966. She then attended college in Kirksville, Mo. She married Bob Gooden and they later divorced.
She had worked for Van Buren County Courthouse, in Keosauqua, for many years in both the Assessors and Treasurers offices, until she retired.
She enjoyed cooking, and spending time with family and friends.
Gooden is survived by a daughter, Robin Airy, of Columbus, Ohio; a son, Ryan (Sandi) Gooden, of Milton; two granddaughters; two sisters, Judy (Ralph) Buhrow, of E. Dundee, Ill., and Kathy Banks, of Denver, Colo.; and three brothers, Don (Pat) Switzer, of Cedar Rapids, Darryl (Kristi) Switzer, of Gilbert, Ariz., and Mark (Cathy) Switzer, of W. Des Moines.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Roger Switzer.
