Mary Lucille Ibbotson
Mary Lucille Ibbotson, 98, Mediapolis and formerly of Winfield, died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2012, at home.
Funeral services were held today at 10 a.m. at Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Mediapolis, with the Rev. Dan Baker officiating. Interment followed at the Winfield-Scott Township Cemetery. Memorials have been established for Great River Hospice, Mediapolis Ambulance and Animal Angels.
She was born Oct. 3, 1914, in Mt. Union, the daughter of Pearl and Emma (Bolon) Cornick. She graduated from Mt. Union High School in 1933. On Nov. 28, 1935, she married Floyd Lewis Ibbotson. They lived on a farm north of Winfield for 42 years.
She worked for several years in Winfield restaurants and as a secretary for veterinarians, Dr. Lockwood, Dr. Westercamp and Dr. Hansmeyer in Winfield. She loved cooking, baking entertaining, square dancing, playing cards, visiting shut-ins and volunteering. She was a Cubs fan. She helped form the Lend-A-Hand Club and was a member of the Jolly Neighbors Club, V.F.W. Auxiliary and was a 50 year member of the Winfield First Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Margie Davis, Mediapolis and Nancy and Gene Meeker, Davenport; seven grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and one step-great-great grandson; one brother, Dick Cornick, West Liberty and two sisters, Twyla Harrington, Denver, Colo. and Connie Clark of Cedar Rapids.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; special friend, Floyd Buxton; three brothers, Gerald, Dwight and Ebb and three sisters, Mildred Wallman, Bonnie Campbell and Lela Corrine Cornick.
