Miller earns medalist honors at SEC boys’ golf tournament
Mt. Pleasant’s Kiley Miller’s 75 was the lowest score at the Southeast Conference boys’ golf tournament, earning him medalist honors.
The Panthers’ Quinn Daniel shot a 78 on the par-72 course to finish third, behind only Miller and Washington’s Dillon de Perrot.
Both Mt. Pleasant players were named first team all-conference for their efforts.
However, the consistency and depth of the Washington and Fairfield teams were too much for the Panthers to overcome, and the Mt. Pleasant team finished third overall at the tournament Tuesday.
Fairfield won the conference title with a score of 317 at the Mt. Pleasant Golf and Country Club. Washington scored 322, followed by the Panthers at 326. Keokuk had a team total of 333, and Ft. Madison finished with a score of 348.
Jordon Phomsouvandara shot an 85 for Mt. Pleasant, and Kyle Kauffman rounded out the team score with an 88. Collin Baccam scored 91 and Jacob Smith shot a 95.
Next up for the Panthers is the sectional meet at The Preserve on Rathbun Lake in Moravia, which will be Friday, May 10. The meet is hosted by Centerville and starts at 10 a.m.
Top finishers move on to the district meet at Stone Creek Golf Club in Williamsburg on Friday, May 17. That meet will also begin at 10 a.m.
