Motorists traveling on Franklin Avenue or county road W55 late last week had a little surprise as they approached the road’s intersection with 230th Street (old U.S. Highway 34 just west of Mt. Pleasant). A pair of hay bales apparently slipped off a vehicle and landed smack dab in the middle of the road. The skid marks on the highway in the northbound direction may have been caused either by the vehicle transporting the bales or another vehicle encountering the obstacles while traveling at a high rate of speed. There were no reports of any accidents caused by the bales.
