Mitchell leads Tigers at McNaughton Invite
The Iowa Wesleyan College men's golf team finished fourth out of nine teams at the McNaughton Invitational hosted by Illinois College on Monday.
The Tigers shot 326 as a team. Hannibal-LaGrange won the team title with a 298.
IWC's Trent Hoekstra led the Tigers and tied for fourth overall, shooting a 75 on the par-72 course.
Hoekstra was just three strokes behind the winner, Marco Torrente of Hannibal-LaGrange, who shot an even par.
Hannibal-LaGrange took the top three places at the event, as Juan Torrente and Thomas Brennan each shot a 73 to take second and third, respectively.
The Tigers’ Blake Mitchell shot a 79 to tie for 11th, and Michael Neff tied for 22nd with a score of 85.
Zac Cronkhite carded an 87 to tie for 27th, while Bo Vitale completed the course in 89 strokes to tie for 30th.
Tanner Travis, competing as an individual, also shot an 89 to tie for 30th.
The Tigers are scheduled to golf again April 21-22 in their final event of the season, the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament, which will be at Forest Park Golf Course in St. Louis.
The IWC women’s golf team has three events left on its schedule, including Thursday’s MacMurray Triangular.
The meet begins at 11:30 a.m. at The Links in Jacksonville, Ill.
