MP 8th-grade track takes third at home meet
The Mt. Pleasant eighth-grade girls’ track and field team competed Monday, April 7, at its home meet. The Panthers placed third with 90 points, finishing behind winner Keokuk (145) and runner-up Fairfield (105) in the team totals.
Mt. Pleasant took gold in two events on the day. The 4x200-meter relay team of Dani Broeker, Hallie Hummell, Jackie Fraise and Katie Ensminger won its event, and Kalynn Batey finished first in the 100 hurdles.
Second-place finishes for the Panthers came from two individuals and two relays: Taylor Murray in the 1,500-meter run and Ensminger in the 200-meter dash; the distance medley team of Murray, Batey, Brianna Bowman and Delaney McDowell; and the sprint medley team of Bowman, Makayla Beason, Fraise and McDowell.
Finishing third was the 4x800 team of Jackie Goodman, Bailey Batten, Megan Sutherland and Samantha Roselle, and the 4x100 team of Bowman, Beason, Fraise and Ensminger.
Batey was also third in the 200-meter hurdles. Ashlee Menke was right behind Batey, taking fourth in the 200 hurdles, and also finished sixth in the 100 hurdles.
Ensminger was fourth in the long jump; Batey was fourth in the high jump and Batten was fourth in shot put.
The 4x400 team of Tuesday Krabill, Roselle, Megan Sutherland and Sydni Wilson was fifth.
Batten took sixth in discus.
The team competes again Tuesday, April 22, at Ottumwa.
