MP boys’ soccer defeated by Fairfield, Burlington
The Mt. Pleasant boys’ soccer team fell to 5-2 on the season with a pair of losses at the end of last week. The Panthers dropped a conference match against Fairfield on Thursday, 2-1, and were defeated by Burlington on Friday, again by a score of 2-1.
Earlier this season, the Panthers came out on top of a 3-2 decision over Fairfield at Fairfield; this time, it was the Trojans who managed a one-goal win.
Bo Vitale had Mt. Pleasant’s only goal on an assist from Derek Holtkamp.
Fairfield didn’t get many shots on the goal, but when they did get the shots, they made them count.
Mt. Pleasant keeper Michael Alderson had three saves, but twice the ball found the back of the net to give Fairfield just enough for a victory.
The match against Burlington went much the same way.
The Panthers’ only goal came from Vitale, assisted by Holtkamp.
Alderson made six saves against the Grayhounds.
The Panthers are now 5-2 overall and 4-1 in the Southeast Conference.
They will take the field again today (Monday) when they travel to Keokuk. The Panthers hosted Keokuk earlier this season, defeating the Chiefs by a score of 6-0.
Tonight’s match begins at 5 p.m.
