MP boys’ soccer wins big over Ft. Madison
FT. MADISON — Even the keeper scored.
The Mt. Pleasant boys’ soccer team picked up a big win over Ft. Madison on Monday, 8-0 — and one of those goals came from the team’s starting keeper, Michael Alderson.
“He’s wanted to score for a while; I think it made his night,” Coach Neil Schmitz said.
Alderson recorded two saves before Noah Brown took over in goal and gave Alderson a chance on offense, where he found the back of the net with a penalty kick.
Brown had one save on the night.
The Panthers got a hat trick in the first half from Bo Vitale. Yiannis Steryiannis scored twice in the game, while Nike Phillips and Brach Prough each had one goal.
Assists came from Derek Holtkamp, Vitale (3), Liam Clancy, Alex Le and Steryiannis.
“Drake Martin and Nike Phillips are doing very well on defense, limiting opponents’ opportunities to get shots,” Schmitz said.
The Panthers remain undefeated, going 4-0 overall and 3-0 in the Southeast Conference so far this season.
They will host Burlington in a tough nonconference match at East Lake Park on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
