MP eighth-grade girls’ basketball swept
The Mt. Pleasant eighth-grade girls’ basketball team was swept by Keokuk on Thursday in Mt. Pleasant.
The Panthers dropped the “A” game by a score of 35-31 to fall to 1-2 on the season.
The contest was close all the way though. The Chiefs led 12-10 at the end of the first quarter and 20-19 at halftime. Mt. Pleasant had taken a 27-25 lead at the end of the third quarter, but Keokuk took the lead back in the last few minutes for the win.
Kalynn Batey led Mt. Pleasant with 23 points.
Jackie Fraise scored four for the Panthers, while Delaney McDowell and Ashlee Menke chipped in two points each.
In the “B” game, Mt. Pleasant lost 22-7 and is now 0-3 on the year.
The Panthers trailed 9-2 at halftime, and the Chiefs put the game away with a big third quarter.
Anna Butcher, Lindsey Lees and Keri Herr had two points each for Mt. Pleasant in the game.
Next up for the Panther teams is a trip to Burlington, where they will take on Edward Stone at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
