MP eighth-grade girls rout Ottumwa in ‘A’ game
The Mt. Pleasant eighth-grade girls’ basketball “A” team routed Ottuwma in a home game on Monday, 40-14, and claimed the “B” game by a score of 16-13 to sweep the Bulldogs.
In the A game, the Panthers (2-3 on the season) had all they’d need for the win by halftime, as they went into the break leading 20-9.
Kalynn Batey led the Panthers with 12 points and Delaney McDowell added 10.
Taylor Murray and Ashlee Menke scored six points each for Mt. Pleasant, while Jackie Fraise had four points and Bailey Batten chipped in two.
In the B game, the Panthers took an 8-7 lead at the end of the first quarter, but were trailed 13-10 at halftime. They moved back into the lead with six points in the third quarter, holding Ottumwa scoreless. Both teams were scoreless in the last quarter as Mt. Pleasant held on for the win.
Kinsey Bruggemeyer and Brianna Bowman each had four points, while Anna Butcher, Bea Fitten, Cassandra Munford and Corissa Williams had two points apiece.
The Panthers play again Thursday when they host Aldo Leopold (Burlington) at 4:30 p.m.
