MP freshman football deals Demons first loss
The Mt. Pleasant freshman football team dealt Washington its first loss of the season on Friday, defeating the Demons by a score of 21-8.
Both teams got off to a slow start offensively, as Mt. Pleasant held a 3-0 lead at halftime after Pat Canby’s 30-yard field goal.
In the second half, however, the Panther offense picked up — starting with a 68-yard touchdown run by Canby, which gave Mt. Pleasant a 9-0 lead.
They added another score on a 67-yard pass from Brock Wilson to Dshundric Foster, and scored their final touchdown on an 8-yard run by Canby for a 21-0 lead.
Washington got on the board with the final touchdown of the game, but it was too little, too late for the Demons.
Canby finished with 140 yards rushing on 18 tries. Zach Ebeling gained 60 yards on 12 attempts.
The backs had help from the offensive line: Dalton Shull, Tre Cosgrove, Gavin Christner, Jeff Brooks and Shawn Hendricks.
Wilson went 4-for-5 for 88 yards passing.
Foster caught two passes for 73 receiving yards and Ebeling had a 15-yard reception.
Foster, Canby, Cosgrove, Ryan Moutrie and Tyler Davis led the team in tackles.
The Panther are now 5-2 on the season and play at Keokuk on Friday. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m.
