MP freshmen top Ottumwa

Sep 10, 2013

The Mt. Pleasant freshman football team picked up another win on Friday, topping Ottumwa by a score of 54-12.

They are now 2-0 on the season after a win over Marion in Week 1, 30-20.

Against Ottumwa, the freshmen took an early lead on Zach Ebeling’s four-yard run into the end zone. Dshundric Foster, who finished with 154 yards on the ground, ran for the two-point conversion, putting Mt. Pleasant up 8-0. Foster then made a 45-yard touchdown run, followed by a Brock Wilson pass to Reece McNamee for another two points.

A 56-yard touchdown run by Ebeling, who had 92 yards on the night, made it 22-0, and Wilson’s 38-yard pass to Foster put the Panthers up by 28 points. They added another score on a 25-yard run by Foster before Ottumwa got on the board, and the team’s went into halftime with Mt. Pleasant up, 34-6.

The second half was much of the same, as Pat Canby ran 55 yards for a touchdown on his way to 117 yards on night. Foster then had a 46-yard touchdown run, and Wilson connected with Levi Parkevich for the two-point conversion to give the Panthers a 48-6 lead. Wilson finished the game 4-of-7 passing for 59 yards.

Canby carried 14 yards into the end zone for the Panthers’ last touchdown, and Ottumwa scored once more.

Coach Kirby Booton notes that his offensive linemen (Dalton Shull, Tre Cosgrove, Julian Schwartz, Tyler Davis, Thad Williams and Ryan Moutrie) had a good night, and that Canby, Cosgrove, Ebeling and Thad Willams played well on defense.

Next up for the Panthers is a home game against Solon on Friday at 5 p.m.
