MP girls’ basketball routed by CR Prairie
CEDAR RAPIDS — The Mt. Pleasant girls’ basketball team had some trouble sinking its shots in a loss to Class 5A No. 9 Cedar Rapids Prairie on Friday, 58-26.
The Panthers didn’t have a single quarter where they scored in double figures, putting up nine points in both the first and fourth quarter and scoring only four points in each of the second and third quarters.
Meanwhile, the Hawks had 13 points in the first quarter and again in the second quarter, and they scored 16 points in each of the last two quarters for their total.
Taryne Shull scored nine to lead Mt. Pleasant — finishing with more than a third of the team’s total points — and had the Panthers’ only three-pointer.
Natalie Myers and Mary Wester had four points each.
On the night, the team went nine-for-13 from the free throw line.
Kelsi Phipps grabbed a team-high nine rebounds and Natalie Ita had four.
Leslie Taylor had four steals for the Panthers.
Mt. Pleasant is now 0-2 on the season. The Panthers have a week off and will take the court again Friday at Fairfield, looking for a better result in their first Southeast Conference game.
