MP girls down Demons
Washington’s top golfer earned medalist honors, but it was the Mt. Pleasant girls’ golf team that came up with the Southeast Conference win in yesterday’s meet against the Demons at Mt. Pleasant Golf and Country Club.
The Panthers scored 187 to Washington’s 202.
“Our team continues to show improvement, as we shot a season-low score of 187 in defeating Washington,” Coach Jim Kelly said. “Once again, it was total team victory, with four scores in the 40s.”
Courtney Mabeus and Haley Booton led the Panthers. Each shot a 45 to tie as runner-up medalist.
Emily Cox carded a 48 and Elle Schleisman scored 49.
“Courtney (Mabeus) continues to be consistent, and Haley Booton shot her career-low score, which was super to see,” Kelly said. “We have five girls right now who can shoot in the 40s in any given meet, which really helps.”
Brianne Holtkamp scored 51 for the Panthers and Hailey Spence shot a 60.
Washington’s Sarah Waite was the medalist with a score of 44.
Other Washington scores came from Megan Buitendorp (51), Brenna Weidman (53) and Deanna Peiffer and Maddie Hora, each of whom shot a 54.
The Mt. Pleasant JV team also played yesterday. Ally Lowe recorded a score of 53, while Cali Liechty shot a 56. Madison Stearns scored 59 and Kirsten Fry scored 75.
The Panthers play again Thursday in Muscatine, against Burlington and Muscatine.
