MP girls’ soccer wins seventh straight
FAIRFIELD — The Mt. Pleasant girls soccer team traveled to Fairfield on Thursday evening and came away with a 3-2 win over the Trojans.
Allie Liechty started the scoring with a throw in from the sideline that bounced off a Fairfield defender into the goal.
Linzie Hood scored the second goal for the Panthers on a long shot from 25 yards out, and Holly Long finished the scoring for the Panthers off an assist from Shael Styron.
Fairfield recorded both of their goals in the first half and the Panthers took the 3-2 lead into halftime.
Fairfield came out strong in the second half but the defense was up to the task and shut out the Trojans in the half to keep the score 3-2 and bring home the win.
“Lauren Hillman made some great saves on the evening and recorded a total of nine saves,” Coach Ed Chabal said. “We talked before the match about being the first person to the ball and to gain possession and we were pleased with the effort that our girls made during the match.”
The Panthers are now 7-0 on the year and 4-0 in the Southeast Conference and will play at home against Keokuk on Monday.
