MP girls win season opener
The Mt. Pleasant seventh-grade girls’ basketball team picked up a huge win in their season opener on Tuesday in Burlington.
The Panthers defeated Aldo Leopold by a score of 65-7 in the “A” game.
The Panthers posted a 27-point first quarter while shutting out their opponents in the first few minutes of the game.
They went on to allow only one point over the next two quarters, and allowed six in the final minutes of the game to claim a big win.
Kalynn Batey tallied a game-high 26 points for the Panthers.
Jackie Fraise joined her in double figures with 14 points, while Ashlee Menke chipped in six.
Taylor Murray, Delaney McDowell and Pearl Krieger-Coble each scored four points, and Sydni Wilson contributed two.
In the “B” game, the Panthers also started their season with a win.
Mt. Pleasant took a 6-2 lead and were up 10-4 at halftime on their way to a 16-4 win.
Mayela Pelayo scored six points to lead the Panthers. Corissa Wilson added four points, while Bailey Batten, Julia Pross and Kinsey Bruggemeyer each scored two points.
Mt. Pleasant will play again tonight (Thursday) at Ft. Madison, starting at 4:30 p.m.
