MP JV, freshman boys defeat Chiefs
The Mt. Pleasant JV boys’ basketball team beat Keokuk 69-52 on Friday night.
“That was the best the team has played all year for four quarters,” Coach Tyler Rodgers said. “We got off to a good start and continued it till the last buzzer. I was impressed, and hopefully we can continue to play at that level.”
Keegan Pullis led the scoring with 17 points, followed by Nathan McConnell and Spencer White with 12 and 11 points, respectively.
“No other stats were kept, but we crashed the boards hard and distributed the ball well all night without turning it over,” Rodgers said.
The Mt. Pleasant freshman boys’ team also played at Keokuk Friday, defeating the Chiefs by a score of 81-54.
Ryan Moutrie posted 24 points in the win, one of four Panthers in double figures.
Dshundric Foster scored 19, Alex Warren added 12 and Zac Ebeling chipped in 10 points.
Brock Wilson scored eight for Mt. Pleasant, and four other players had two points apiece: Trevor Mabeus, Spencer Braun, John Anderson and Zion Jordan.
The team is now 4-5. The Panthers split its games the weekend before, downing Fairfield, 58-25, but falling to Iowa City West, 60-44.
Against West, the Panthers were led in scoring by Wilson with 16 points and Ebeling with 11.
Warren added eight points for Mt. Pleasant.
In the win over Fairfield, Foster scored a team-high 14 points and Wilson added 12. Ebeling contributed 10 points.
Next up for the Mt. Pleasant teams is Friday’s game against Ft. Madison.
Freshmen start at 4:45 p.m. in the home game against the Bloodhounds, followed by JV and varsity.
