MPCHS music groups will host Dessert Theater this weekend
The students of the Mt. Pleasant Community Schools music department are busy rehearsing for the 2013 Dessert Theater, which will be presented this weekend at the high school. This year’s production features a “Game Show” theme.
The music department conducted an online survey of the public’s votes for their favorite songs in various categories including favorite love song, best song of all time and much more. Songs will include numbers by the Carpenters, Styx and the Beatles’ “Let It Be” and Billy Joel’s “For the Longest Time” among others. All those who support youth and the community’s music program are invited to come and hear what else the...survey says.
Dessert Theater is a very large undertaking, not only of the middle school and high school music faculty, but the Mt. Pleasant Music Boosters organization. It features elaborate decorations greeting the guests in the high school commons area, a candlelit gymnasium that is transformed into a nightclub venue for the production. The Music Boosters parents prepare layer cakes and cheesecakes to be served to the guests, along with coffee or iced tea. There is an admission charge.
Brown’s Shoe Fit Company handles the ticket sales locally. Good seats are still available for the Saturday evening production at 7 p.m. A few table seats may remain for the Sunday 2 p.m. show. Bleacher seats, for the show only, are available for a charge after all table seats have been sold. The remaining tickets will be available at the door.
The featured performers are Mt. Pleasant High School Jazz I and Jazz II bands, as well as the InMotion Show Choir, and individual and ensemble performers. For the Sunday afternoon show only, the MPCMS Jazz Band and Chain Reaction Show Choir performs. All of these ensembles have placed or won competitions this past jazz and show choir season.
