Mt. Pleasant bowlers begin season in Ottumwa

OTTUMWA — The 2016-17 season is officially underway for the Mt. Pleasant bowling teams.
The boys’ team and the girls’ team started their season in Ottumwa and Coach Troy Mears had his first look at the new teams.
The boys had a score of 2,561 in their first action, led by three bowlers scoring over 385 in their individual games.
Clayton Sammons led the way with a 408, rolling a 193 in his first game and a 215 in the second. Brandon Parton had a 389, rolling a 225 and a 164, and Cameron Sammons tied Parton with a 389 of his own, scoring 192 and 197.
Hunter Brown rolled a 324 for the Panthers. Levi Mills scored a 259 and Jacob Crooks rolled a 256.
In the baker games, the boys’ team rolled 152, 161, 157, 153, 169.
The girls’ team rolled a 1,896 on the day. Emma Overton led the way with a 337, rolling 208 in her first game and 129 in the second.
Kelsey Hummell and Emily Shumaker each finished over 250. Hummell scored a 292 and Shumaker finished at 259.
Rounding out the girls’ team scores were Briana Bowman, who rolled a 192, Cassidy Dumas, who rolled a 189, and Betsy Bochting finished at 182.
The junior varsity teams were also in action, with the JV boys scoring a 1,433 and the JV girls scoring a 943.
For the boys, it was Levi Boles who led the way. He scored a 221. Mark Steinhoff rolled a 195. Ethan Oilar rolled a 182. Damien Kracht and Blake Davis each rolled a 172 and Charlie Kahler rolled a 155.
On the girls’ side, Jersey Dennis had a nice game, at 233. Brittany Triska scored a 169 and Genesis Carrillo had a 151.
