Mt. Pleasant boys top Solon at home

The fourth-ranked Mt. Pleasant boys polished off a 19-2 regular season on Monday night with a 68-54 victory.
The Panthers won their eighth game in a row and haven’t lost to a 3A opponent since their first game of the year, at Cedar Rapids Xavier in late November.
Brady Sartorius scored 28 points in the contest to lead the way for Mt. Pleasant. Jordan Magnani scored 14 points and Colin Mulford had 10 to give Mt. Pleasant three double-digit scorers.
Kieran Kohorst scored eight points in the win. Tom O’Connor scored four points, and Maison Ashton and Jonathan Ita scored two points apiece.
The Panthers swept Solon on the night, winning the freshman game, 72-38, and the junior varsity game, 67-65.
The underclassmen teams finished their season with just one blemish combined. The JV team was 15-1 and the freshmen team was 14-0.
The Panthers finished the regular season as undefeated SEC champions, with an 8-0 record for the second year in a row.
They will now turn their attention towards the district tournament, which begins on Monday, Feb. 20.
Mt. Pleasant will host two games on the first night of the tournament. Chariton will play Ft. Madison at 6:30 p.m., and the Panthers will take on Keokuk at 8 p.m.
The winners of those two games will be back at MPCHS on Thursday, Feb. 23, at 7 p.m., for the district final.
The substate game will be played at Fairfield on Monday, Feb. 27, at 7 p.m. The team that comes out of Mt. Pleasant’s district will play Oskaloosa, Knoxville, Fairfield or Washington.
