Mt. Pleasant football falls to Keokuk
KEOKUK — The Mt. Pleasant football team dropped its week 8 game against Keokuk on Friday night, falling by a score of 33-7.
The Panthers allowed 27 points in the first half and another touchdown in the final quarter. Four different Chiefs scored in the game.
The Panthers scored their only touchdown in the second quarter on a 1-yard run by Carson Remick. Zoom Gwamna’s PAT attempt was good.
On the night, the Panthers came up with just five first downs — two rushing, two passing and one by penalty — while Keokuk picked up 16.
The Chiefs finished with 308 net yards of total offense, and Mt. Pleasant had 88.
Gwamna had a team-high 39 rushing yards in the game (9.8 per carry) and Remick picked up 24 net yards.
Dustin Amos was 2-for-6 passing for 26 yards and Joseph Hess was 4-for-6 for 14 yards.
Cole Phillips had two catches for 22 yards. Blake Knudsen had a 5-yard catch and Justin Dilks had a 2-yard reception.
Justin Chalupa had an interception, and Austin Smith blocked a kick.
Remick and Canby led the defense, according to Coach Shawn Striegel.
The Panthers are now 0-8 on the season and 0-5 in the district.
They finish their season on Friday when they host Williamsburg.
Kickoff is scheduled for around 7:30 p.m.
