MEDIAPOLIS — Scoring wasn’t a problem for the Mt. Pleasant girls on Monday night but a high-powered Bullette offense was.
The Panthers scored in the double digits in each quarter but No. 13 (2A) Mediapolis lit up the scoreboard all night and Mt. Pleasant lost a shootout, 86-70.
The Panthers opened things up with a 22-19 lead after the first quarter, but the Bullettes responded with a 20-11 second quarter to take a 39-33 lead into halftime.
Mediapolis started to pull away in the third quarter. Both teams hit 20-plus points in the period, with the Bullettes outscoring the Panthers, 25-21, to take a 64-54 lead into the final period.
The Bullettes kept the pedal to the medal in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Panthers, 22-16, and pulling away for the 16-point win.
Mt. Pleasant had four players reach double digits in the loss. Bailey Johnson had a huge game, finishing with 14 points, 13 rebounds, five assists and two steals, leading or co-leading the team in each category.
Maddie Williamson scored 14 points of her own to co-lead the team. Kalynn Batey and Sarah Moffett scored 12 points apiece. Batey led the team with two blocked shots.
Rylee Amos hit two of the Panthers’ four three-pointers on the night to finish with eight points. Brianna Shelman had seven points and Abbie Liechty finished with three.
The Panthers had their four-game winning streak snapped with the loss and fell to 5-5 overall.
They will try to improve on their 1-2 SEC record tonight (Tuesday) in Ft. Madison. That game is set to start at 7:45 p.m.
