Mt. Pleasant Golf Club honors Bob Roth with tournament
The inaugural Bob Roth Big Bucket Golf Tournament was on Sunday, Sept. 15, at the Mt. Pleasant Golf and Country Club.
The three-person best-shot tournament was in honor of Roth, who served as the golf course superintendent for 45 years and retired from the position three years ago.
At the “big bucket” tournament, the holes are eight inches in diameter, insetad of the usual four inches. The change brings some humor to the event, as cutting larger holes in the greens was not Roth’s favorite thing to do.
Twenty teams attended the tournament. Roth, pictured with his wife, Jan Roth, was not able to play in the tournament due to a recent knee surgery, but he did “throw the first club” off the first tee, indicating the start of tournamnt play.
